Why Strategically Human Exists
There are moments in life that divide everything into before and after.
I have lived on both sides.
For more than three decades, I dedicated my career to leadership, human resources, organizational development, and helping businesses recognize the value of the people who made them successful. I believed then, as I do now, that every organization is only as strong as the humanity it shows the people it serves.
Then life rewrote my story.
I survived profound trauma and violence that changed the course of my life forever. I endured devastating personal loss. Invisible illnesses gradually stole pieces of the career I loved, and serious medical crises eventually left me fighting for my life.
Almost overnight, I went from being the person helping others navigate difficult circumstances to becoming the person trying to survive them.
I learned what it feels like when your world becomes a collection of diagnoses, medical records, insurance claims, and paperwork.
I learned what it feels like to smile while carrying pain no one else can see.
I learned how isolating it can be when the strongest person in the room suddenly becomes the one who needs help.
But I also learned something extraordinary.
I learned that healing doesn't begin with a prescription.
It begins when another human being truly sees you.
A physician who takes one extra minute.
A nurse who offers dignity instead of judgment.
A stranger who chooses kindness.
A friend who refuses to give up on you.
A service dog who somehow knows exactly when your heart is breaking.
Those moments changed me just as much as the tragedies did.
They reminded me that humanity is never a weakness.
It is our greatest strength.
That's why Strategically Human exists.
Not because my life went according to plan.
Because it didn't.
Strategically Human was born from the belief that people should never be reduced to their diagnosis, their disability, their trauma, their job title, or the worst thing that has ever happened to them.
Every person deserves to be seen.
Every voice deserves to matter.
Every story deserves hope.
Through leadership, education, conversation, products, speaking, writing, advocacy, and community, Strategically Human exists to remind people that compassion is not soft.
It is courageous.
Humanity is not a distraction from success.
It is the foundation of lasting success.
Resilience is not pretending life doesn't hurt.
It is choosing to keep moving forward anyway.
